alienware_16x_aurora_laptop

I ordered a Dell Alienware 16X Aurora laptop for work.

It came with Windows, of course. I was able to shrink the C: partition within Windows to make room for Arch. I was attempting to preserve Windows if possible but would wipe it if necessary.

Out of the box the firmware would not boot the Arch Linux USB because secure boot was enabled.

After I disabled secure boot I had to recreate my Windows PIN.

Next, the firmware would now boot the Arch install medium, but Linux could not see the NVMe drive.

This was because the drive mode was set to RST/VME instead of AHCI.

After switching the drive mode to AHCI, I thought Windows would have issues but surprisingly it still booted fine. And Linux could now see the NVMe drive.

Installation went fine after that.

Surprisingly, webcam worked out of the box.

However, external monitor did not. I tried nvidia module but that did not work. Then I tried nvidia-open and that worked.
